Zaki wants to return to Wigan

Zaki was a massive hit in the first few months of the season but fans lost their enthusiasm for him as his performances dropped and the goals dried up. To top off his poor form, the striker failed to return back from international duty on time which angered all at the club including former manager Steve Bruce. A deal to sign Zaki fell dead in the water after that but now the striker wants a return to the club who gave him his chance in English football.

Speaking to the Wigan Observer, Zaki said "I really wanted to stay with Latics - and I still do.

"I hear Martinez is a very talented coach who is still young and close to the players' age, which will help him get the best out of them. But this depends on the Latics board, who should make an official offer for Zamalek to sign me.

"Without a doubt, Wigan was a great experience for me, and I enjoyed every second of the time I spent with Latics in the Premier League."

If Zaki gets his wish and Martinez signs the striker, fans will probably need time to see which Zaki has turned up, the goal hungry Zaki who gave his all, or the Zaki who was affected by the bright lights of being linked to a whole host of European clubs. Either way, a deal to sign the Egyptian could be good with Hugo Rodallega the only striker at the club expected to play a part next season. Marlon King is expected to be sold after his loan spell at Middlesbrough.
