The 23 year old midfielder has had trouble with his hamstring in recent weeks and was perhaps rushed back into the fold for hte game with Fulham. He was subsistuted early in the first half after complaining of a pain in the muscle.

Latics boss Steve Bruce has now confirmed that Valencia could face a spell on the sidelines of upto a month, and the club will not be rushing the Equadorian back too soon.

"We have probably set him back two or three weeks. Antonio trained during the week and thought he was fit, but hamstrings are injuries you really have to be careful with," Bruce told the Wigan Evening Post.

"You probably can't get away with only two or three training sessions when you're playing at this level."
