The 24 year old striker joined in January from Kilmarnock for a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000. He made his debut as a 81st minute substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City and nearly netted a goal.
Now, as the Latics look for goals in the closing fight for survival, Roberto Martinez has highlighted Sammon as a secreat weapon.
The Latics chairman said: “I must say I liked the look of young Sammon when he came on last week. I thought he changed the game when he came on.
“He made an instant impact down the middle and immediately helped Hugo Rodallega, who’s been on his own quite a lot this year. He made that chance at the end himself, and he looks very direct and very willing – a real 110 per cent player.
“He got stuck in too, and I’m looking forward to seeing him for the rest of the season, if Roberto decides to start with him.”
