Sammon ready for action

The former Kilmarnock striker has won over a significant proportion of the Latics support with his combative, battling, and work hungry forward play.

Sammon has been instrumental in the recent upturn of results against Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers.

He is now hoping for an extended run in the first team but appreciates that competition for places is high.

“Competition for places is what you want,” Sammon told the Evening Post.

“Whether it’s me, Franco or Hugo who gets the start, we’re all pushing each other and fighting for the position.

“I think that’s very healthy for the club because it keeps us fresh, competitive and hungry to work hard in training and in matches.

“We’ve a lot of big games coming up, particularly over Christmas, and I’m sure we’ve all got a part to play.”

Arsenal are the visitors to the DW Stadium this weekend and Sammon's aggressive style will certainly ruffle a few feathers if he is selected.
