Pre-Season training resumes

The players will be glad to get back into the swing of things again after a short end of season break.

New signings, Per Frandsen, David Graham and David Wright appeared, and the biggest news is that Graham (pictured) had in his possession the number seven shirt, formerly belinging to Andy Liddell.

All the players had kept themselves in good shape and Jewell seemed pleased with the level of fitness possessed by the squad.

He took time out to speak to the official site and mainly spoke about the current contract talks with Jackson and Mitchell alongside the fact that he was disappointed to lose Liddell and de Vos.

PJ also spoke about his desire to add another centre back to the squad, he said:"Apart from Andy Liddell and Jason De Vos who have moved on, all the out of contracts players are going to sign I think. In fact, Gary Walsh, James Salisbury and Mike Flynn already have, while Matt Jackson and Paul Mitchell are expected to do so today as well. That's very pleasing as they all have something to offer us and that is why we wanted to keep them here.

"We are disappointed to lose Jason and Andy but that's football sometimes. They've had offers elsewhere that they decided to take and we wish them all the best with their futures

"The new lads seem to have settled in OK and I suspect they'll be pleased to get started now. They are all a bit different as Per Frandsen (pictured), is proven at the highest level, David Wright is proven at this, while David Graham will be looking to make the step up and prove himself to us.

"Each of them has a different reason for being here I suppose but they have all impressed me with their commitment and desire to come to the JJB. We've also signed David Moore and Greg Traynor on one year deals so it will be interesting to see how they develop over the next 12 months too.

"In terms of new additions, we are still looking to bring people in and I suppose centre half is the position that is my priority. We have Matt Jackson, Ian Breckin and also David Wright who can play there too, but I would like to add another one for competition as well. I have two or three targets in mind and we'll have to wait and see what comes of those.

"All in all it's certainly good to be back in and the break has helped us get over the disappointment at the end of last season. From a playing point of view you don't really enjoy pre-season and I definitely look forward to it more as a manager!

"Everyone looks in decent shape so we should be up to speed quite quickly and once we've got this first couple of weeks out of the way, we shall start thinking about the matches that we have ahead of us and by then we will really be looking forward to them."
