The attendance against Leeds was only 17,177 and so surely should not have commanded such a fee, especialyl when other local sides get similar attendances and pay much, much less.

Mr Whelan said: "I cannot believe the cost of policing this match and feel that what we are being asked to pay is just ridiculous. It appears that we are once again being charged more than almost all our neighbouring clubs and, with that in mind, I have decided to make the figures from the Leeds game public to demonstrate why they have angered us.

"Once again I emphasise that we are not trying to get out of paying policing costs, we are just extremely unhappy that we appear to be charged so much more than is the norm. We will happily pay costs in line with what other clubs pay, but we will not pay what we feel are scandalous prices for a service that other clubs seem to get for a lot less."

No doubt it will take the F.A. or an external body to sort this dispute as the Latics quite rightly will not back down and the G.M.P. seem a bit ignorant in their billing of matches.

The chairman will appear on ITV soccer night on Thursday evening. The programme is on ITV at 11.30pm. Paul Jewell has also been interviewed for the programme and the Latics are set to feature heavily with the crunch game against Ipswich coming up this weekend.
