Paul Scharner: Made his welcome return from injury against Fulham
Faster than the proverbial cheater that used to flash across his homepage, Paul Scharner has thankfully recovered from knee surgery and made his return to the first team in the 0-0 draw with Fulham on Saturday.

The former Brann Bergen defender was delighted to be back and had a special thankyou message for the fans. Scharner said: "I want to thank all the supporters who chanted my name as I warmed up along the touchline. It really sends a glow to your heart when you know the people are behind you and wanting you to do well.

"It seemed a bit of a long shot back in early January when I tried to look into the future and work out when I could be back, but Fulham always seemed a realistic target."

Meantime, Hearts are rather amusingly trying to claim defender Andy Webster is worth £5 million. The 24 year old joined the Latics at the start of the season in a move that was the first of its kind.

Scottish international Webster invoked a new EU employment ruling that allowed him to move to a club in a different country despite the year remaining on his contract.

The transfer fee will now be decided by tribunal on April 4th.

Whilst in contract news, both Arjan De Zeeuw and Matt Jackson are set to land new deals with the club after playing important roles this term.

Turning 37 next week, De Zeeuw has been unhappy with his stop start season so far but feels there is another year left in his legs.

He said: "We touched base a while ago, but I've been injured for a long time and we weren't sure at one stage when the injury would go. I think we need to know where Wigan will be next season and then talk again - so let's get those points on the board first."

Jackson on the other hand has been a little more coy about the prospect of a new deal for him. The 35 year old centre back is simply focusing on the next game and is relishing his time at the heart of the defence.

After their form so far this term and overall importance to the team and club atmosphere, it would be a shock if either left at the end of the term.
