Latics target Miller

Kenny Miller
Miller, who turn 25 next month, was placed on the transfer list at the start of the season by his club and has been unsettled since, despite scoring eight goals in eighteen appearances for the club.

Dave Jones was sacked as manager at the start of the month and the club have yet to find a replacement. Gary Megson looks like he's the favourite for the position, but he is known for his physical style which could see Miller overlooked.

The Scottish international forward also wants to make a swift return to the Premiership where he managed to score against the likes of Manchester United last season. With Wolves languising in 15th place, he may well feel that Premiership football is more likely at the JJB.

Wolves would be likely to command a fee of around £500,000 for the striker, which would be good business as David Healy moved to Leeds for more than that just a few weeks ago.

Jewell will not be forced into panic buying however and he stated that: In my weaker moments I have thought there are certain players out there who would do okay and that we could go for them. However, that has not been my principle in my time here, and I soon remind myself that I must stay with what I believe in because that is what has worked in the past.

"The success we have had here is based on trying to do the right things, so Im ill at ease in moving away from that plan of action. I have one or two players in mine who I would like to bring in but it is tough to get them at the moment, especially from Premiership clbus. It's that type of player we are looking for, and hopefully something can happen."

Andy O'Brien
Jewell has also been quick to snap at rumours he was bringing Irish international Andy O'Brien into the club from Newcastle, he said:"We've made no approach to Newcastle for O'Brien, I can tell you that.
"I can't stop people talking but I'm not going to comment on any names thrown at me either.

"All I will say is that I want to bring in players who are better than the ones we already have here."

While young Brazilian Magno Silva Vieira has extended his loan deal with Carlisle to the end of the season. He was named as Conference player of the month last month, and has managed seven goals in fifteen appearances for the club.

Magno Silva Vieira
Jewell said: "Carlisle have been desperate to keep him and would actually like to buy him if possible I think but there's no chance of that as we want him here next season. However, this spell away will benefit both clubs and the player himself and, having spoken to him, he is keen to stay there as he's enjoying himself.

"He's been getting amongst the goals which is good to see and with there being some experienced players in what is now a strong Conference League, he'll learn a lot more from playing against central defenders at that level than young kids in the reserves here.

"All in all I think this deal will benefit everyone and with there being a good chance that Magno can help Carlisle back into the Football League, it really is a great opportunity for him."
