The 31 year old attacking midfielder spent the best part of five years with the Latics drawing his huge wages earned as part of the £5.5 million deal that brought him to the DW Stadium from WBA.
Now the former Welsh international has been released by the Latics and is in search of a new club.
Ironically, Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday are chasing Koumas' signature. The two clubs are managed by Paul Jewell and Gary Megson, both of whom have had dealings with Koumas in the past.
Whilst the signing may sound exciting to supporters of those two clubs, it is worth remembering how well Koumas did with Cardiff City on loan last season.
Wigan Athletic are well and truely shut of a player who has so much talent to offer, but so little application to do so.
