The cost of the work comes to £100,000 and the club have also purchased a cover for the pitch at a cost of £190,000.
Whelan told wiganathletic.tv: "Paul is very pleased because he said it was a little bit difficult and bobbly on Saturday, but we've now got an opportunity to get it sorted. We're doing everything we can to make sure the pitch is in tip top condition."
