The international duo have missed the opening two Latics games and will be welcomed into the fold for Saturday's game.

McCulloch injured his knee ligaments in the friendly with Accrington and Kavanagh suffered a heel injury in the friendly with Morecambe.

Henri Camara is suffering from a hamstring strain and could sit out the Sunderland game aswell, while Gary Teale's x-ray has shown no break. But Ryan Taylor is likely to take Teale's place for the Sunderland game.

Paul Jewell told the club's official website: "Kavanagh started training again today (Tuesday) after injuring his heel at Morecambe three weeks ago. McCulloch injured his knee ligament at Accrington, but is now back running.

"Camara pulled his hamstring playing for Senegal last week and we're waiting for the results of a scan, although that's now looking a lot more positive than we first feared. All in all the injury news is looking rosier than it did at the weekend.

"Gary Teale had an x-ray on a foot injury picked up at Charlton, which showed no break, but he is expected to remain sidelined. John Filan is still three weeks away from returning after a hernia operation and Emerson Thome is still a month away after tearing his thigh."

Meanwhile Manchester City are said to have tabled a £7 million bid for Latics target Dean Ashton.
