Jewell wants new faces

Last updated : 09 January 2006 By Paul Farrington
Jewell reported just last week that two substantial bids had been rejected and the clubs involved had asked for silly money, the sort he is not prepared to pay.

However the 41 year old has not been dis-heartened and will now look elsewhere.

He said: "We do need two or three bodies coming in. We are working exceptionally hard behind the scenes, but it looks as though two players we were hoping to bring in will not be coming."

One player being strongly linked with the club is Robert Earnshaw of West Bromwich Albion. The 24 year old is increasingly frustrated at his lack of first team action and is actively seeking a move.

The pint-sized striker was subject of Wigan interest in the summer and has had two transfer requests turned down by his manager Brian Robson.

Earnshaw has been quoted: "It is as clear as crystal that I need to get away from West Brom for the sake of my domestic and international career.

"I don't really know what the future holds for me but it is increasingly clear that it's not here and I have to do something about it. I have worked hard on my game and think I deserve a better shot than I'm getting at the club.

"I am disappointed and very frustrated. I know I can do myself justice in the Premiership. I'm learning all the time but I need playing time and I'm not getting it at Albion so there is only one alternative.

"While I will always have a smile on my face, I am getting a bit disillusioned with it all because it affects my chances with Wales."
