Whelan who backed the manager through the dark times early in Jewell's reign has said: "I am right behind Paul - no matter what happens. In fact, if he got us relegated two years on the trot he would still have my backing.
"That's because he fights for this club like hell, and that is a precious thing in football."
After a slow start to the season, the new signings are starting to gel and the true talent of Paul Jewell is coming to the fore as he once again re-models the Latics squad to progress further up the league structure.
