Jewell on Blake deal

Jewell told the club's official website:
"We have had a third bid of £700,000 turned down by Burnley for 'Blakey' and I suspect that may be the end of our interest now. We have offered what we think is a fair price for the player as we like him but unfortunately Burnley do not agree with our valuation. It's very disappointing that each bid has come out in the press because that is not the way we operate as I do not believe it is fair to the other club and it must also be unsettling for the player. I know Burnley are unhappy that the bids have come out publically too and I can understand that because I am not happy either.

"As I said on Sunday, I did make another bid for a Championship striker recently but nothing has come of that either. To be fair he hasn't stopped scoring since I made the substantial bid and it's fair to say that there will probably be plenty of Premiership clubs in for the player too now. That will make it hard for us to compete I would imagine but I would have liked to have brought the player in if I could have done.

"Basically we're still very keen to add to the squad and will continue to move heaven and earth to do so. Unfortunately things aren't quite happening for us at the moment and though that is disappointing, I've no worries about the players here not being up to the job that they have to do. We have plenty of quality in our squad, it would just be nice to have a few more bodies and a bit more competition."
