Kevin Kilbane: International Superstar
No fewer than eight players are away on international duty. The list is made up of Antonio Valencia, Lee McCulloch, Leighton Baines, Denny Landzaat, Henri Camara, Kevin Kilbane, David Cotterill and Kristofer Haestad.

The risk of injuries to his key players is a factor that worries Paul Jewell who is praying his players come back injury free.

He said: "I suppose it is a sign of how far the club has come that we have so many international players away. It is a worrying time as we want them back in one piece ready for a very important game at Charlton.

"The international break isn't ideal because at this stage of the season, there are a lot of clubs - including ourselves - fighting for our lives. You want your players available on a daily basis so you can prepare properly.

"But I accept international matches have to be played at some stage and there will be disruption. You couldn't just play them all in the summer, players need a break, and really international football is already getting like international cricket with matches all year round.

"Antonio is travelling to the United States to play for Ecuador. The game against Mexico is in San Francisco next Wednesday, which I've got to admit is one I wouldn't mind scouting!

"I'm just hoping we get through the week injury-free, although one or two of them are going to be a bit tired. That is when we need everyone available, because we might need to call on them at some stage.

"It was a boost getting Arjan de Zeeuw, Paul Scharner and Henri Camara back for the Fulham game, and Fitz Hall is available again after suspension."

Best of luck to all of the Wigan players in international action over the following week.
