Jason Roberts V Geoff Horsfield

The pair should have faced each other in mid-March but a red card at Stoke meant that Jason Roberts had to sit out the game at the Hawthorns. The Latics went down 2-1, Horsfield was substituted at half time.

Jason Roberts

Roberts, 26, cost the Latics nearly one and a half million pounds. He has managed to score eight goals in twelve games whilst partnering friend Nathan Ellington up front for Wigan. Giving the Grenadan a strike rate of 2/3.

At the moment, each Roberts goals has cost the Latics £187,500.

Geoff Horsfield

Horsfield, 30, made the switch from Wigan to the Baggies for one million and has gone on to score six goals in eighteen games, giving the Horse a strike rate of 1/3.

Each Horsfield goal has cost the Baggies £167,000.

Conclusion

The Baggies' Horsfield is four years older than his Wigan opponent and has managed to score two goals less than Roberts in six more games. Meaning his strike rate is more than 30% worse.

At the moment however, each Roberts goal has been more expensive than Horsfield's goals, but with such a difference in strike rate it will surely not be long until the cost per goal switches and Roberts' goals are more profitable.

It is also notable that the visits of Baggies fans to our messageboard insulting Jason Roberts and hailing Geoff Horsfield have decresed after the pair have settled into their stride at their respective clubs.

In my opinion time will show that Paul Jewell has once again pulled a rabbit out of his hat and produced a great bit of business.
