Jewell said: "I have made approaches for four high quality players and am waiting to see what comes of those. They are the sort of players that would really make people sit up and take notice but I'm not willing to name names because it's not fair to the players or their clubs. I feel we need to improve the squad and if we could get any of these players in, they would certainly do that. The Chairman is backing me 100% with these transfer targets and that is very reasurring, but I do think he sees what I am trying to do and therefore is willing to trust me with the type of player I'd like to bring in.

"It's not always easy to convince players to drop down from the Premiership but in a couple of the four cases, we are still waiting to find out the results of our enquiries. These are international footballers we're talking about and I have to say I'm excited about the thought that we might be able to get them here. I wish I could share names with you to be honest but I can't!

"Even if we cannot make any of these deals happen, the approaches show the kind of step forward that we're trying to take here and the progress that we are looking to make. This ambition and drive is what made me a little disappointed with the corwd on Saturday but I only said things as I saw them."
