Heskey shines in England victory

Heskey was arguably England's best performer in a drab first-half which saw the former Liverpool striker cut a lonely figure up front.

Yet despite a lack of support Heskey continued to cause problems and nearly set up the opener but Lampard's snap shot was blocked for a corner.

A disgruntled Wembley crowd had to wait until midway through the second-half for a goal; Rio Ferdinand scoring his third goal. Wayne Rooney added the third and fourth after an own goal doubled England's lead.

With minutes remaining, Heskey set up substitute Jermaine Defoe for the fifth goal seconds after the Portsmouth striker had replaced Wayne Rooney.

Heskey nearly scored twice with a near post header expertly saved with seconds remaining.

So a good performance from the big man who is still waiting for his first England goal in five and a half years.

Interesting note, Heskey was rated the highest on the BBC player rater.
