Three months for Per
He will be out for around three months, which means his next Latics game could well be in 2005.

The tough tackling midfielder was taken off after an hour in the 4-0 win over Sheffield United after he seemed to fall awkwardly.

Paul Jewell said: "The scan has shown that he has damaged the ligaments in his knee and he will now have an operation to put that right on Wednesday. It's a bitter blow as Per has been outstanding and has brought something new to the team. Obviously he is as upset as anyone but unfortunately that's football, and we'll all just have to get on with things.

"Having seen the specialist we have been told that he is going to be out of action for at least three months but obviously that depends on how his rehabilitation goes. We'll know more after the op on Wednesday so we'll have to wait and see.

"As I said, it's a bitter blow for Per and for us, and obviously we wish him all the best with his recovery and hope that we see him back in action once again as soon as we possibly can."
