Former Rangers, Manchester City and Everton full back Michael Ball is presently on trial with the Latics after leaving Eastlands in the summer.
It is expected that the thirty year old will take place in a behind closed doors friendly match this weekend as most of the Latics squad is away on international duty.
Manager Martinez is then expected to make his final decision on the full back who is believed to be providing cover for Maynor Figueroa who presently has a knee inury, and has been linked with a sideways move to Sunderland.
It is understood that Ball has rejected the chance to train with Notts County and is hoping to earn himself a spot with the Latics. He is certainly a player with good pedigree who was only forced out of hte City fold by the signing of Wayne Bridge from Chelsea.
