Caleb Folan: Irish call-up expected
The 24 year old striker has quickly set about making friends in the top flight with his performances. Two goals in his last three starts for the club have helped to propel the the Latics clear of relegation, and Folan into the limelight.

Latics boss Paul Jewell revealed that he has fielded a query from Ireland boss Steve Staunton as to the eligability of Folan to pull on a green jersey.

Jewell told the Wigan Evening Post: "Steve rang me on Monday and there seems to be a bit of interest in Caleb. He has been doing well in the short time he has been with us, and has grasped the nettle with what we want him to do.

"Of course he has a lot to learn, but he is willing to do that. And the two goals he has scored so far have earned us four points. Those points could be worth a lot to us."

After his explosion onto the Premeirship scene, the athletic and determined Folan may well be given the opportunity to shoot down Wales and Slovakia for the Irish.

Good luck to Caleb for the forthcoming squad announcement.
