Nevertheless Folan was disappointed to miss out on his first international call up.
He said: "I went over on the same ankle I hurt in training not too long ago. It doesn't feel as bad as last time. I'll strap it up and see how it is over the next few days.
"I was due to join up with the Ireland squad tomorrow so that's disappointing. I'm gutted to miss the chance, but what can you do?"
The club are yet to release comment on the exact length of time that Folan will be out for.
