Change is the order of the day for Martinez

In recent games a number of players have been performing below par and this is starting to grate on Martinez. Whilst the football going forward has been improving steadily, things seem to be getting ever worse at the back.

The Latics have conceeded too many soft goals this season and this has as much to do with a lack of defensive cover on the wings as it has to do with poor marking from set pieces.

In summary, the team needs an overhaul defensively, and this will be needed sooner rather than later if the Latics are to hold out the Champions.

Speaking to the press, Martinez said of the half time team talk against Blackburn: "What happens in the dressing room stays in the privacy of the dressing room, but the first half wasn't good enough and the reaction was the right one and that shows you the character we have."

Hopefully the Latics will put up a good performance at Old Trafford, more reminiscent of the second half against Rovers.

"We're going to go to United and try to win the football game. Obviously it's going to be difficult, it's going to be hard, you're looking at their record at home and it's outstanding and obviously they've got a big squad and they can approach the game in a different manner, but we are all excited," added Martinez.
