Whalley - On Trial
Whalley is currently in dispute over his contract at Cardiff City and it is believed that the club would like to offload the former Crewe midfielder who played under Paul Jewell at Bradford City.

He was signed for £600,000 by Jewell at Valley Parade and in 2002 left for Ninian Park. Whalley has now made 47 appearances for the Welsh club, scoring two goals, but it seems his future lies elsewhere.

Jewell told wiganathletic.tv, "I know Gareth well and he's a quality footballer who was player of the year when we got promoted to the Premiership at Bradford.

"He's coming here for a couple of weeks' training so we can have a look at him, and something may develop on that in the future.

"It's only a short-term thing for now, but I think Cardiff would be willing to let him go, so we'll see how it goes and then make a decision on him once we've assessed him to see where he stands fitness wise."
