Williams has been watched by a number of scouts after a series of impressive performances at left full back have earned him a growing reputation throughout the scouting network.

Nick Rubery, who represents Williams, told the Wigan Evening Post: "People have seen that Chris Hutchings was at Scunthorpe's game against Lincoln and have maybe put two and two together that he was there to watch Marcus.

"Marcus is a quality player, there are some big clubs that have watched him and eventually he will make his way to the level he should be playing at.

"I'm sure Chris Hutchings will be bringing in a left-back over the next two or three weeks, so we will just have to see what happens."

At just 21 years of age, Williams is viewed as the ideal replacement for Leighton Baines who joined Everton last week. A fee is yet to be discussed, although Scunthorpe are said to be looking in the region of £500,000.
