That said, defeat to Charlton would see the Latics move within just three points of the Addicks, which would make for a tense final seven games.

Manager Paul Jewell believes that his side need just two more victories to confirm their Premiership status, starting with a win over the relegation threatened London outfit.

He Said: "I said a few weeks ago we still needed to win four games to make sure. Since then we've beaten Newcastle and Manchester City.

"There's going to be plenty more twists and turns and a lot of teams looking over their shoulder between now and the end of the season."

Saturday will be a nervour encounter for both sides involved. Both have hit good form of late, which has seen Manchester City, Sheffield United and arguably Fulham and Aston Villa being dragged into the scrap at the bottom.

Back to back home wins for Charlton over West Ham and Newcastle have pulled them within four points of fourth from bottom Sheffield, and just six behind ourselves.

Luck of the irish: Folan could play
The Latics have also hit a green patch of good form. Since ending their eight game losing streak in the league, Paul Jewell's troops have won three, drawn two and lost just once (to Phill Dowd) in their last six games.

Charlton, since Alan Pardew jumped ship from West Ham, has given the Addicks some self belief and fight, making Saturday's game a tough match.

With this in mind, Paul Jewell should have an almost fully fit squad to choose from. Suspended trio Leighton Baines, Fitz Hall and Lee McCulloch return, whilst Caleb Folan could play some part after his ankle injury was deemed not as bad as first thought.

Only Emmerson Boyce, out with broken ribs, is ruled out.

Paul Scharner and Henri Camara, injured for three months, continued their road to full fitness thanks to the international break, and could see themselves starting the six-pointer.

Charlton have been hit with an injury to Andy Reid, who will miss the rest of the season.

Ones to Watch

Darren Bent. Who else? the England striker has an goal average of one every two games for Charlton, and is always a handful with his blistering pace.

Pundits Prediction

Sky Sports don't predict a Wigan loss for once, going for a 2-2 draw. Mark Lawrenson is on a similar wave-lenght, going for 1-1.

My Prediction

Although obviously a victory would be fantastic and drag us nine points clear, i think this game will start nervously, kick into life and end with each team taking a share of the spoils.
