Liverpool Preview: Torres out for Anfield clash

Last updated : 17 October 2008 By Michael Goodman

Sitting joint top level par with Chelsea, Benitez will be hoping to continue their title challenge a little longer than last season where a mid season collapse saw his side fall out of the run for the title.

The summer saw many new faces arrive and saw some faces leave. John Arne Riise was one of the big name players out of the door after a very successful spell at the Merseyside club.

On the incoming front, Big money signing Robbie Keane was the main talking point since his arrival from Tottenham in a £20m deal and he should lead the attack with Fernando Torres a major doubt after limping out of Spain's win over Belgium mid week.

After a busy week of internationals, Steve Bruce will be hoping to have a fully fit squad but this will more than likely not be the case.

Emile Heskey limped out of England's 3-1 win over Belarus, Amr Zaki missed Egypt's win against Djibouti so attack wise, Wigan could be light in that department.

After the disappointment of the Middlesbrough game, a trip to Anfield is a fixture Bruce would not have chosen to play in the next game but never the less, Anything is possible in football with Stoke claiming a point at Anfield earlier in the season.

Team News

Assuming all players return in a good state of manner from international duty, Bruce could make one or two changes to keep the squad fresh. Zaki is a big doubt after tearing his hamstring which will be a massive blow with Henri Camara returning to the starting XI if this happens.
