Two goals from the former Newcastle flyer, James McCarthy's first strike of the season and a last-minute Scott Sinclair goal ensured the Latics turned a half-time deficit into a comfortable victory.

Geovanni's first-half free-kick had given the Tigers the advantage at the interval but three goals in 16 second-half minutes ultimately downed Phil Brown's men.

The home side threatened first when Scott Sinclair clipped Boaz Myhill's crossbar with a sixth-minute cross.

And Sinclair was at it again in the 13th minute but, after teeing up Hugo Rodallega, the Colombian striker could only head wide.

McCarthy was the next to go close for the home side but Myhill was equal to his 20- yard effort after 19 minutes.

The visitors took the lead when Geovanni curled a free-kick from just outside the box for his fifth of the season.

Titus Bramble's foul on Kamil Zayatte gave the Brazilian playmaker the opportunity and he gave 37-year-old home keeper Mike Pollitt - standing in for the injured Chris Kirkland - no chance.

The Tigers started where they left off after the break but, after good work from Richard Garcia, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink could only head over the bar.

And the visitors were immediately left to rue that miss on 47 minutes when half-time substitute N'Zogbia immediately levelled proceedings.

He was slipped through by Jason Scotland and the 23-year-old made no mistake firing low past Myhill for his first of the season.

A rampant Wigan successfully turned the game on its head after 63 minutes when McCarthy beat Myhill from outside the box.

The architect of the Latics comeback, N'Zogbia, was too hot to handle again four minutes later, picking up a short corner and firing an unstoppable drive to make it 3-1.

And Sinclair put the icing on the cake of a vintage second-half performance with a stoppage-time strike.
