The hottest strikeforce in The Championship took their goal tally to a highly impressive 40 as Wigan duly dispatched a stubborn Millwall side to claim three more precious points in their quest for the Premiership.

Nathan Ellington and Jason Roberts have been the scourge of defences across the country and were once again in electric form as Wigan picked up their eighth win from 11 games.

Ellington opened the scoring 11 minutes after the break with a coolly taken penalty after Gary Teale had been brought down by Tony Craig.

It was his 23rd goal of a productive season and there were even doubts that he would make the line-up because of a recurring shoulder injury.

But not to be outdone, his strike partner Roberts weighed in with goal number 17 to seal a thoroughly deserved victory for the home side.

Picking up a long through ball, Roberts out-muscled Millwall centre-backs Darren Ward and Matt Lawrence in a dazzling 30-yard run before sweetly chipping the ball past Andy Marshall.

It was a thoroughly deserved victory for the home side but they were made to fight every inch of the way by a stubborn Milwall outfit, but while posing little threat upfront, they chased and harried the championship leaders out of their stride.
