The Latics had their strongest side out on the park and it showed as the opening ten minutes saw the Latics camped in Stoke's half.
Teale (2), Mahon and Jarrett all had good chances in the early exchanges.
The best fell to Teale who shot wide on the volley after Jimmy Bullard's free kick was headed partlially clear.
As the half neared the end, Stoke gained a bit more confidence and ventured into our half slightly more.
Eustace saw his free kick saved by Filan and Noel-Williams watched his header fall comfortably to the same fate as his team mates free kick just moments earlier.
Bullard squanded Wigan's best chance of the half as he shot low from the edge of the area after Roberts laid him on well. He should have scored.
Teale had to then be substituted with what looks like a broken collar bone after a terribly late tackle from Clive Clarke. The tackle wen unpunished and just mintues later, a hopeless long ball was mis-judged by Jason De Vos who let in Akinbiyi to score from close range.
1-0 to Stoke.
Second Half
The Latics came out second half and continued to dominate the game with some excellent passing play, and it was only going to be a matter of time before the equaliser.
Ellington had what looked like a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside as he converted Roberts' croos-come-shot after 50 minutes.
Ellington and Jarrett missed two further chances, Jarrett's a half volley from just five yards that flew over the bar, before Jason roberts was sent off for what looked like a Wigan free-kick as the Stoke player held on to the strikers leg.
Lee McCulloch replaced Jarrett and the team seemed to rally, forcing a series of corners and constant pressure on the Stoke goal.
Ellington then got onto a JDV header across goal and smashed a volley into the goal to send both the team and the away fans behind the goal into extasy.
That was how it stayed and thankfully the teams around us did not pick up points either.
We stay third with 54 points, I can taste the Premeirship!

Manager's Comments
Paul Jewell
"I thought we were magnificent today and deserved to win the game comfortably and not just gain a point. Having said that, it didn't look like it was going to be our day and the players deserve all the credit in the world for keeping going right until the end.

"It would have been easy for them to throw the towel in, especially when we were reduced to ten men and that just shows the spirit we have in the squad. We made so many chances and played some great football but just couldn't get the ball in the net. Eventually, 'Duke' came up trumps though and that was the least we deserved.
"I'm going to sound like Arsene Wenger here but I honestly didn't see the incident for the sending off. Jason (Roberts) has said that he hasn't doesn't anything wrong though and I must say it would be out of character if he did lash out or stamp on anyone. We'll have to have a look at the video of the incident before we think about appealing but the ref has said he'll take another look at it.
"What does frustrate me is the fact that the tackle that's left Gary Teale with a broken collar bone goes completely unpunished. It looked to me like the ref didn't know who did the tackle which is disappointing to say the least and it's made even more galling when he goes to speak to his assistant and he doesn't know either!
"Gary wasn't away and clear on goal but he was beyond his defender in a great position to burst clear to set up an attack when he was hacked down. For me it was a poor tackle and I just can't believe there was no punishment for it.
"I don't want to talk about the officials any more though and all in all we can look on this as a good point under the circumstances and I do think that the performance of the players was great. There have a tremendous 'never say die' attitude and though I don't usually go overboard in praise of my players, I have to say that they made me very proud to be their manager today."
