Sing up for the Champions

Super Duke
As usual our "friends" down in Crewe blamed the referee again for their own team's poor discipline as the Latics outclassed a lost Crewe Alex side.

The Latics pressed and harried Crewe all over the pitch. In true Dario Gradi style the Alex knocked the ball around and put in some superb passes. However because of the pressure on them, most of these were towards their own goal.

This resulted in the Latics raining shots at the Crewe goal. It was no suprise when Clayton Ince recieved the man-of-the-match award from the Crewe people!

Player Ratings

John Filan 7 Was he playing, I didn't see him touch the ball?
Nicky Eaden 8 Supported Teale well down the right.
Steve McMillan 8 Did a very good job on Rodney Jack.
Jason De Vos 9 Rock solid.
Matt Jackson 9 Marked Hulse out of the game.
Lee McCulloch 6 Had a superb fifteen seconds before the idiot Sodje ended his game.
Gary Teale 9 Marvelous down the right. They couldn't handle him.
Jimmy Bullard 9 Nearly a ten, I don't think he could have played any better!
Tony Dinning 8 Kept control in the middle of the field. got one back for Lee McCllouch too.
Nathan Ellington 8 Good to see him back on the scoresheet.
Andy Liddell 9 Very impressive, played like a team player.

Subs

Neil Roberts 8 Played virtually a full 90 minutes. Played well with Ellly and Lids.
Jason Jarrett 7 Wasn't really on long enough.
Paul Mitchell 7 Wasn't really on long enough.

The Incredible Hulse as he is known in Crewe really lived up to his name as both Matt Jackson and Jason De Vos were left wondering if he was Simon Haworth in disguise!

I was more proud than ever to be a Latics fan last night.

Keep up the good work lads. Everyone is behind you 110%.

Jewell said: "I was pleased with the goal. Nathan has been scoring a lot of goals in night games. He must be an owl. Maybe he should be playing for Sheffield Wednesday."

He added: "When Lee McCulloch was cut in half, we had to change it around and it took a little while to adapt. Lee has got stud marks from his chest down to his hip and he's shaken up. He won't play on Saturday.

"We didn't want to get involved in any of the nasty stuff and told the players to keep away and be professional. They had nothing to lose in the second half and it was a scrappy game, and we were under a bit of pressure.

"But this win was important as we don't want the players to drop off the pace."
