Wigan Athletic 3 Tottenham 3

Throwing away leads has been the story of the Latics' season and that is why they find themselves perilously close to the drop zone. In 10 league matches, they have gone in front but squandered a massive 26 points — losing six and drawing four.

At least they salvaged a point which Jewell believes could prove crucial. But he added: "The manner in which we conceded the goals was disappointing.

"Going forward we were excellent and this was as well as we have played in a long time.

Spurs fightback leaves Wigan worrying

Tottenham came from behind three times to snatch a point as Wigan's defensive fragility continues to leave them firmly embroiled in a relegation battle. Emile Heskey, Leighton Baines and Kevin Kilbane all put Wigan in front at various stages of a pulsating game at the JJB Stadium.

But first Dimitar Berbatov hauled Tottenham level before captain Robbie Keane scored a double, with his first from the penalty spot to make it 38 goals for the duo this season.

Chimbonda almost snatched the winner 10 minutes from time, only to be denied by the blocking legs of Filan from a tight angle by the right post.

Jewell bemoans wasteful Wigan as Keane leads Tottenham fightback

No team has scored more often than Wigan in the opening five minutes of Premiership matches this season so it was no great surprise to see them take the lead within 60 seconds of the kick-off.

both teams continued to press forward, Spurs driven by Didier Zokora and Jermaine Jenas, Wigan by Landzaat and Paul Scharner. The latter were lacking little in comparison, just as Heskey and Henri Camara looked almost as dangerous as Keane and Berbatov.

Jewell said: "There's no point me going on about the 26 points we've dropped from being in the lead, we can analyse the season when it's over. We're in a battle, we'll take anything we can get and in the end we've got a point more than we had yesterday. It might be the point that keeps us up."
