Super Tony

Dinning :: Back to his best
The midfielder was on target either side of half-time as Latics recovered from a slow start to march to a 3-1 win.

Nathan Ellington got the third goal – his 10th of the campaign – but it was Dinning who got the plaudits from his manager.

Jewell said: "Tony has been immense for us since I brought him back into the team a couple of weeks ago.

"I don't think he has shown his true potential yet, but he came back in pre-season a different player.

"The old red mist let him down at Colchester and after that we had to have a long chat.

"In training and the matches he has reacted superbly and he looks a better player. He is doing a good job for the team and it was nice to see him score the two goals."

Dinning's brace took his tally to three in two games following his goal against Cardiff last week, and he was happy to be coming away from Home Park with the victory.

"It's a long way to come if you return with nothing," he said.

"We created a lot of chances again and managed to score three goals, finishing them off.

"The way we play with two banks of four, teams are finding it hard to get through us."

Ellington :: 10th of the season.
Latics fell behind to an Ian Stonebridge goal, before Dinning levelled. He then fired them in front after the break, with Ellington breaking clear to add the third deep into stoppage time.

Boss Jewell said: "I was pleased to get the three points as we looked a bit tired and lethargic.

"But credit to the players for digging in there.

"Last week we threw it away against Cardiff, but this time we have shown character. It was a long journey here for the supporters and they deserved to see a win.

"I thought Gary Teale had his best game for a while and Tony put one of his crosses away."

The only injury worry was a slight groin strain picked up by right-back Nicky Eaden.

But he still lasted 90 minutes and with a blank midweek, he should be fit for Saturday's home game with Stockport County.

The victory came at the end of a sad week for the club following the sudden death of vice-chairman Duncan Sharpe.

Jewell hoped the three points would help lift some of the gloom.

"It's been a terrible week at the club as Duncan's death shocked everyone," he said. "Our hearts go out to his family at such a sad time."

Tickets for the Worthington Cup clash with Manchester City on November 5 went on sale today.

The televised clash is not all-ticket for home fans, but the club strongly advises to buy in advance.
