Paper Talk: Wigan know score

With Sunderland, Sheffield United and West Ham breathing down their neck, Wigan realise there's little room for error from now.

March hasn't been the best of months for Paul Jewell's men but a 2-1 win over Coventry City was a timely tonic after taking only one point from the previous nine.

Latics are certainly in illustrious company as the race for play-off places hots up.

The question being asked by fans is: "Can they stay the course?"

It's a big ask for a relatively small squad but spirit and steel remains in plentiful supply.

Unfashionable teams with similar qualities have defied the odds before and one doubts Latics will buckle with a man like Jewell in charge. One thing is for sure, Wigan don't plan on being anyone's fool in April when six crunch clashes will go a long way to determining their destiny this term.

They are relishing slogging it out with the heavyweights.

Jason Roberts' return from suspension certainly added more punch and ko'd Coventry by scoring both goals.

Manager Jewell said: "Jason's pace gives us an extra dimension. He has the ability to get in behind defenders."

Wigan need more of the same from Roberts going into the final stretch.
