No fear!

Both players are only due back at the training ground on Friday morning after playing in friendly matches later today.

Centre-half de Vos skippers Canada against Libya in Tripoli while Kennedy is in Belfast for Northern Ireland's clash with Finland.

While international weeks tend to raise the club versus country debate, Latics don't begrudge their players jetting off for duty, just as long as they return fit.

Kennedy's last game for the Irish last August saw him pick up an Achilles tendon injury which kept him sidelined for six weeks.

Assistant manager Chris Hutchings said: "We wish Jason and Peter all the best and I hope they come back with no injuries.

"Playing at international level is the pinnacle of a player's career and you can't deny them that honour. The lads are due back in the country on Thursday, although not in time for training, so we'll next see them on Friday morning."

De Vos will win his 39th cap in Libya, although he wasn't exactly thrilled with the prospect of the trip to North Africa, bearing in mind the tension in the region at the moment.

He met up with the Canadian squad in Frankfurt on Sunday before flying to Tripoli on Monday.

Before leaving, the skipper said: "I don't know whether to pack my football boots or army boots.

"When the fixture was first announced I made a quick call to Canada to see who had arranged it because it is one of the stranger ones.

"I have been assured by the Canadian FA that everything will be taken care of and that we'll be treated like royalty out there."

Canada are presently 70th in the FIFA rankings, 24 places above today's opponents.

Meanwhile, a number of players on the fringes of the Latics squad will get some much needed match practice in the reserves at Doncaster this afternoon.

Last week's fixture at Stoke was twice postponed, the first time after the team coach got caught in a motorway jam, and the second because of an icy pitch.

The 10,546 crowd for last Saturday's game against Blackpool was Latics' third highest for a league game at the JJB, beaten only by the visits of Preston and Burnley in the 1999/2000 campaign.

Blackpool had 3,033 fans in the East Stand, the biggest away following for a league fixture at Wigan this season.

The Supporters and Travel Club are holding a quiz night at the JJB on Thursday, February 20, starting at 8.00pm.

Entry is £1 per person, it's a maximum of five people per team and the evening is open to all fans.
