Injury Worries

The main concern for boss Paul Jewell was striker Neil Roberts, who suffered a painful leg injury in last weekend's hard fought draw at Peterborough.

Latics also have injury concerns over Steve McMillan (thigh) and Tony Dinning (calf), although Dinning is suspended against Luton.

Jewell said: "Luckily we've got a free week and that gives Neil and Steve time to recover, but neither of them have trained so far this week.

"We'll give them all the time possible to recover, but there are doubts about their fitness at this stage.

"We've a few tired limbs right now because we've had a gruelling season, but I don't want to make it sound like I'm crying because I'm not.

"If you have to play 60 games in a season that means you are successful and right now we have a great opportunity to play in Division One next season."

After Luton, Wigan lock horns with strugglers Stockport at Edgeley Park on Tuesday and Queens Park Rangers on Saturday week.

By the time they take on Plymouth at the JJB on March 29, Latics could have automatic promotion in the bag.

But Jewell warned: "Nothing is decided yet and that's the way we are looking at it.

"Whatever our position, we have still got 10 very tough games ahead and, as Notts County showed last weekend with their win at Cardiff, Division Two is an extremely competitive league.

"People are saying we are up, but that's not the case.

"We have made decent progress this season, but that's all.

"We have still got a massive job ahead of us starting with a big game against Luton this weekend."

Wigan are in FA Youth Cup semi-final action against Bury at Gigg Lane tonight (7pm). The winners will play either Preston or Tranmere in the final.

Wigan Reserves are back in action a week tonight at Shrewsbury. Mike Flynn and youngster David Moore found the target in Monday's 2-0 win at Stoke.

The home side fielded first team faces Chris Iwelumo, Marc Goodfellow and Bjarni Gudjonnson, but David Lowe's team were always in charge.
