Eaden may stay on at JJB

The right-back has spent the past month on loan with Paul Jewell's promotion chasers, Latics being unbeaten in the five games he has played.

His loan spell from Birmingham City runs out after Saturday's home game against Stockport, and manager Jewell is believed to be keen to keep him on board.

As he is out of favour at St Andrews, Birmingham are unlikely to have any objections to allowing Eaden to stay on at Latics.

The transfer window imposed on Premiership clubs by UEFA during the summer does complicate matters somewhat.

Latics would be allowed to complete a permanent deal, even though the window is technically closed until January.

Under the rather complicated rules, Nationwide League clubs can buy players off a Premiership outfit outside of the trading window provided they already have the player on loan.

That position obviously applies to Eaden, although any permanent deal would have to be completed before the loan period runs out.
Another option available to Latics is to get Birmingham to agree to a extension of his loan stay.

Eaden, 29, has turned in some impressive performances in the last month.
The right-back slot had been something of a headache for Jewell prior to his arrival, but the former Barnsley defender has filled the role admirably.

If an agreement can't be reached, Latics still have the option of turning to ex-Manchester City skipper Richard Edghill.

He has been training with the squad for the past month in a bid to keep up his fitness after being released by City.

Meanwhile, Latics have thrown their support fully behind football's anti-racism week which begins tomorrow.

Before the Stockport game, all players from both sides will wear special Kick Racism Out of Football T-shirts in the warm-up.

Stickers will be handed out to children at the game while a number of high school pupils from Wigan have been invited to the game to help promote the anti-racism message.

Latics skipper Jason de Vos, a patron of the campaign, said: "As a club we are committed to this cause.

"Saturday gives is the opportunity to show our support and it is important that everyone in football continues to work hard to eradicate this problem from our game."

A slight knock kept de Vos out of Canada's starting line-up against Scotland at Easter Road last night.

David Lee's youth team made a first round exit from the FA Youth Cup last night, beaten 1-0 by Wrexham at the JJB.
