In recent history, Zaki has been in good form for his country. The 25 year old scored in the 2006 African Cup of Nations Semi-Final win over Senegal and also put in strong performances in the 2008 tournament earlier this year which Egypt won.

He scored against Ivory Coast in the Semi-Final and his strong performances saw Zaki recognised with selection the team of the tournament.

Meantime, following the rejection of Hendry Thomas' work permit application, Steve Bruce has turned his attention to Middlesbrough youngster Lee Cattermole as he aims to sure up his midfield.

The 20 year old is said to be the subject of a £3.5 million offer from the Latics.
