Worthington denies Jarrett move

Jarrett is currently out of contract and is unhappy with the deal that the Latics have offered him.

That contract is three years in length and believed to be a fair salary for a player of Jarrett's ability and experience.

It seemed that Norwich would be the destination for the former Bury midfielder but Worthington has been quoted: "I don't know where the story about the player joining us in the next 48 hours has come from - it is certainly not the case. Jason Jarrett is a player we have watched on occasions and we admire the way he plays. But other than that there is nothing else to say at this moment in time.

"There are a lot of other players who fall into the same category as him. We are trying to add to the group we've got and there are a lot of players that we're looking at. Hopefully there will be something to report in the not too distant future.

"At this time of year it's always the same - there's lots of speculation surrounding all sorts of people - but there is nothing concrete to report at present."

It now seems that after testing the water, Jarrett may well have to face up to reality and sign the deal at the JJB or face a major step down in club size.
