Paul Jewell said: "I am delighted the transfer has finally been completed and I'm looking forward to welcoming Antonio into the team. We'll see what part he'll play tomorrow after only travelling today but I know he is another quality addition to the squad who will add competition to that midfield area."
The only doubt as to Valencia's debut is his fitness and state after only arriving in the country late this evening [Friday]. If Valencia is not ready for the fixture then the Latics faithful may well see a return to the JJB pitch for Pascal Chimbonda who has featured on the right flank in previous friendlies.
Chief Executive Brenda Spencer revealed just how hard the staff had been working to get the Valencia transfer done and dusted so he can get onto the pitch in a Wigan shirt.
She told the club's official website: "It has been another far from straight forward transfer for Antonio but we can confirm that after much hard work and effort, all the paperwork is in order and Antonio has been freed to play for the team."
