Jason Koumas: Happy to fight for his place
Koumas was one of the first names on the team sheet under former manager Chris Hutchings but has found his opportunities limited under new boss Steve Bruce.

The 28 year old even managed to bag a brace for Wales in their recent friendly with Bulgaria. Despite strong links to Blackburn and Celtic during the January transfer window, Koumas has vowed to stay and fight for his place.

He told the Wigan Observer: "If you ask any player, if they're not playing they aren't going to be happy. I'm exactly the same. Obviously you're going to be frustrated, but I will keep going until I'm in the team and playing well.

"I only joined five months ago so I feel I've got a lot to prove here to be honest. Fans have seen nothing of me yet and it's frustrating for me on my part. I want to be out there playing.

"Wigan bought me for a lot of money and it's frustrating that I can't show what I can do. I don't feel like I've had loads of chances. But I can't really complain if the team has been winning."

How long he is willing to stay on the bench only time will tell but with Bruce prefering the more aggressive style offered by Ryan Taylor, Koumas could well find himself with more substitute appearances than he would want.

The full length Jason Koumas interview can be found in this week's Wigan Observer.

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic reserves defeated Bolton Wanderers reserves 2-1 last night at the Robin Park Arena. Goals from the two young Polish players, Tomasz Cywka and Tomasz Kuspisz were enough to cancel out Obadeyi's opener for the Trotters.

More good news from the game came with all reports suggesting that Dutch winger Rachid Bouaouzan put in an impressive display for the team, in particular setting up the goal for Kuspisz with a direct run and excellent pass.

Finally, Steve Bruce has added former Bury manager Chris Casper to his backroom staff. Casper is said to be joining as European scout according to the Daily Express.
