Wigan Team News

Changes could well be made to the Wigan Athletic starting eleven after Saturday's defeat to West Ham.

Roberts: Cannot afford a booking
Matt Jackson could come in for David Wright at centre half. Wright put in a decent performance but was caught out by the pace of Marlon Harewood for the Hammer's second goal. Jackson's experience could be vital on Tuesday night.

Jewell is reknowed for sticking with his man and Wright may well start the game.

The Latics boss has no fresh injury worries ahead of the game but the threat of a booking for striker Jason Roberts looms large.

Should the 19-goal front man pick up a yellow on Tuesday night, he will miss the away trips to Cardiff and Leicester, surely ending the Latics promotion hopes.

Alan Mahon may also be given a chance at half time should the Latics still be searching for a goal.

Wigan (Probable): Filan, Eaden, Wright, Breckin, McCulloch, Teale, Kavanagh, Bullard, Ellington, Roberts.

Brown: Goalscorer
No new injury worries for Mick McCarthy either, and he will be focusing on making sure there is no complacency within his ranks.

The Black Cats have been in outstanding form recently with seven straight wins and will be favourites going into the game. However many of his players may be complacent after going five points clear at the top.

Goals from Arca, Brown and Welsh secured their 3-1 victory at Q.P.R. on Saturday and the former Republic of Ireland boss is likely to keep faith with the same side that started that game.

This means leaving goalscorer Brown on the bench. He may replace Marcus Stewart up front though, should McCarthy feel his side is not doing enough going forward.

Sunderland (Probable): Myhre, Wright, Arca, Breen, Caldwell, Welsh, Whitehead, Whitley, Robinson, Elliot, Stewart.
