Whelan: We mean business

Dave Whelan: Up for the cup
Whelan has been particularly outspoken so far this season and talks a lot of sense. Just ten years ago when he suggested the Latics would make the Premiership, everyone laughed.

If past comments are anything to go by we will win the League Cup on Sunday.

Whelan said: "We are not going to Cardiff to enjoy the day out and savour what will be a marvellous occasion. We mean business.

"People keep asking me 'Can we really do it?'. Why not? We won't be easy pickings for United, that's for sure.

"I know these Wigan lads and they are immensely proud every time they pull on a blue shirt. They have a steely determination. They work their socks off and they will fight to the death.

"We are no-one's pushovers and everyone in the land who does not have an affinity for United will be rooting for us and urging us to victory."
