We won't be relegated declares Boyce

Boyce: Defiant
A win in this weekend's game with Middlesbrough would be a massive boost for the Latics who have struggled recently. Wigan have picked up just three points from the last possible twenty-one, a run that has left them dangerously close to the relegation zone.

However, Boyce is optimistic of survival. He told the Wigan Observer: "We won't be relegated. We have to believe we are going to stay up and everyone here does.

"We need the supporters to believe in us as well. It's not a disaster because we've got the chance to put it right this week against Middlesbrough. We've got to put it right. We've got to work harder and be organised better. We need to take more responsibilty.

"It's still in our hands, we've got to go out and get two victories and we've got the players here to do it. This is when the strongest minds come out on top. Our results don't lie and we've got to put it right. West Ham beat us convincingly on Saturday and that hurts everyone. We have to bounce back and we will."

The 27 year old defender refused to agree that Middlesbrough, who have little to play for, will be easy opponents at the weekend. With over £500,000 for each position gained in the league, Gareth Southgate's men will want to win.

Boyce added: "It doesn't matter what they're playing for, they'll still want to finish the season as high up the table as possible. They won't come here and roll over. We've got everything to play for and we have to get three points - it's up to us to get the result. It's going to be a long week for us, but we've got to stick in there and grind it out."

In the other relegation fixtures this weekend, West Ham host Bolton, Fulham entertain Liverpool, Sheffield United travel to Aston Villa and Charlton play Tottenham on Monday.

A win for the Latics would almost surely lift them out of the relegation battle, there has never been a better time to get a result.
