Watson looking for turn around in form

The former Crystal Palace midfielder, a £1.5 million addition to the squad in January told the Wigan Observer: "We would have liked to have played the day after the West Ham game if we could, just to win a game, because we really need a win.

"At the moment it's not happening, but we can only look to the next game and we'll see how we go.

"The confidence is still there - even last Wednesday night I thought we started well, and I think we would have won the game with eleven men.

"It's not as east as that, because you have to go out there and do your stuff on the pitch."

The 23 year old is likely to capitalise on the four match ban that fellow midfielder Lee Cattermole must now suffer following his red card in the West Ham defeat.

However he is looking no further than the Sunderland game this weekend to kick start the Latics' fortunes, and is hiping for a first win in nine games.

He added: "Sunderland at their place is a massive game, and if we can get three points then the West Ham game will be forgotten and everyone will be happy again.

"We just have to keep plugging away. The aim at the start of the season was probably to stay up, and that is still the aim now. Anything after that is a bonus."

Thus far, Watson has made just four appearances for the club, three of which have come as a substitute. With Cattermole's suspension, now is the time for Watson to impress.
