If promotion to the Premiership would not be sweet enough in itself for the Latics, the fact that the local egg chasers may be kicked out would just put the cherry (and white) on top of the promotion.

A Premier League spokesman has said: "If Wigan were promoted they would put forward the stadium to be registered and a decision would then be taken. It would be a matter for the board (of the Premier League)."
