Warriors booted out of JJB

Putting a positive spin on the move, new Warriors chairman Ian Lenagan said: "The last thing we want is a worldwide TV audience with the pitch having suffered from heavy rain, and Wigan rugby league club having played a game on there a couple of days prior to the football match.

"We have been wrongly blamed for the poor state of the JJB Stadium pitch and I don't want Wigan's name, and rugby league's name, to attract wrongful criticism."

Instead the Warriors will play on the Monday after the Latics game with current Champions Manchester United.

The Latics match with United is likely to be a capacity crowd whilst the Warriors will struggle to half fill the stadium for their game with Whitehaven.

There may be further disruption to the Warriors schedule in the summer as the Latics fund significant pitch improvements, particularly regarding the drainage facilities.

It seems that it is only a matter of time before the Warriors are instructed to find a new home to continue their pursuit of a minority sport. It is just a shame for the Warriors that they picked the back yard of football in Wigan in which to play their game.
