Waghorn gives Mackay a headache

Martyn Waghorn gave Malky Mackay something to think about after he scored a vital goal at the DW Stadium yesterday.

Waghorn scored an acrobatic late equaliser as Wigan Athletic rescued a point at home to Bolton Wanderers in the derby. The match finished 1-1 and gives Wigan hope of avoiding relegation once more.

In a game Latics really should have won, they rued several missed chances. They hit the bar twice and the post once, before being forced to chase the game after a deflected sucker punch from Bolton's Tom Walker.

Despite having good games, starting strikers Leon Clarke and Marc-Antoine Fortune missed a few chances from point blank range, particularly headers. Whereas it only took Waghorn half a chance to tuck away a goal.

It left Wigan fans wondering what might have been if the 25-year old had played the full ninety minutes. The team would have probably earned the three points they thoroughly deserved.

Although the statistics state that Waghorn hadn't scored since 22nd September, you have to take into account that he has had hardly any game time since then. He also had a shoulder injury which kept him out for a few months.

However, his poacher instincts must leave him wondering what he has to do to get into the starting lineup. One thing is definite though, Mackay can't ignore Martyn for much longer.
