The Equadorian World Cup starlet is somewhat of a suprise transfer for the Latics and could well be a handy wild-card for the season ahead.

The big question mark for many fans was whether he could adapt and settle in the life in England. It seems as though the 20 year old is more than happy with Wigan life however.

Valenica told the club's official website: "It is very important for me to start learning because I need to understand the other players and the coaching staff.

"Everyone at Wigan has made me feel extremely welcome so far and although there is a problem at the moment with the language, the people here have been extremely friendly and everyone is telling me they want me to be successful in the Premiership.

"I want to repay the faith they have shown in me and I will be trying my best, that I can promise."

Valenica is now in line to make his Premiership bow this Saturday as the Latics face Newcastle United without Gary Teale who is curerntly injured.
