Unsworth's disappointment

Unsworth's final day penalty kept the club up
The former Everton and Sheffield United defender, now 33, was a little suprised when he was told of the club's intentions, as were many of the supporters.

Unsworth told Everton's official website: "I was very disappointed not to get a new deal but I am going to go on holiday now. I have had a couple of offers in but you not one that I really fancy at the moment - we will just have to see in a couple of weeks where we are up to but I am looking forward to a fresh challenge.

"You have got to believe in yourself and I certainly think there is a good few years left in the legs yet. I will just see if any offers come in that I fancy and will just take it week by week.

"I have made a conscious effort to go back to centre half I played a number of games there for Wigan and at left back really but I thought I did okay and I was happy with my form."

Even at 33 the defender will not be short of options and many Wigan fans are a little disgruntled as to the reason why he was allowed to leave.

Unsworth will always be a part of Wigan history after his goal on the final day of the season and we certainly here at wiganer.net wish him all the best for the future.

Meantime, Youth Team coach David Lee has left the club. The former Bolton and Southampton winger will no longer take charge of the youth team as new boss Chris Hutchings re-structures his backroom staff.

Best wishes to David for his future activities in football he was a good servant to the club.
